Genset Controllers
A genset controller is the module that starts and stops the engine, monitors its parameters, protects the alternator, and — on auto mains failure duty — decides when to transfer load. Deep Sea 7320 and 6020 and ComAp InteliLite are the modules most commonly fitted.
Controllers are selected by function rather than by set size: manual start, auto start, auto mains failure, or synchronising. The module defines what the panel can do, so it is the first decision in a panel build.
Most modules are configurable over USB with the manufacturer’s software. Replacing a module without transferring the configuration will leave the set running on defaults, which rarely match the installation.

Common questions
What does a DSE7320 do that a DSE6020 does not?
Both are auto mains failure modules. The 7320 adds a larger configurable input and output count, more comprehensive protection and event logging, and supports a wider range of communications options. For a straightforward single-set AMF application the 6020 is often sufficient.
Do I need to reconfigure a replacement controller?
Yes. A new module ships with factory defaults for timers, protection thresholds, CT ratio and input functions. These must be set to match the set and the installation, or protection will either nuisance-trip or fail to operate.
